FilmCoStars

Frequently asked questions

Everything about how the comparison works, where the data comes from and what we do with your searches.

How does FilmCoStars work?

Pick two to five actors, and we compare their movie credits to find every film they all appear in. Instead of opening dozens of filmography pages, you get one clean list sorted from newest to oldest, with the character each actor played.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email required. FilmCoStars runs entirely in your browser and every search is free.

How many actors can I compare at once?

You can compare between two and five actors. The more actors you add, the narrower the result: a film is only listed when all of them are in the cast.

Where does the movie data come from?

All film, cast and character information comes from TMDb (The Movie Database), a community-maintained movie database. When you run a search, your browser requests the data directly from TMDb, so the information is as fresh as their latest update.

Why is a movie I know missing from the results?

The app only lists movies where every selected actor appears in the credited cast. Uncredited appearances, cameos and deleted scenes are often missing from TMDb, so they will not show up here either. Documentary footage or archive clips are usually not listed as cast credits.

Does FilmCoStars include TV series?

No, it focuses on feature films. The comparison uses each actor's movie credits, so series, miniseries and TV movies are not part of the results.

What do the character names mean?

For each shared film we show the role each actor played, taken from the TMDb cast list. If TMDb has no character name for that credit, the role is shown as "Uncredited".

Is FilmCoStars affiliated with TMDb or IMDb?

No. FilmCoStars is an independent project. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb, and it has no connection to IMDb.

Do you store my searches?

We do not keep a database of searches. Queries are sent from your browser to TMDb to fetch the results, and we only use aggregated analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they read.

Is FilmCoStars free?

Yes, it is completely free to use and there is nothing to install. If the project grows, ads may help cover its running costs, and this policy will be updated before that happens.
